Knowledge and Technology Transfer
In our research group, we strive for both scientific excellence and practical relevance. For this reason, we work closely with companies of various sizes and industries—from start-ups to DAX-listed corporations.
Our research in the field of games and gamification is highly versatile and can be applied to a wide range of practical challenges, making it easy to initiate collaborative projects.
Previous research collaborations have taken place in sectors such as banking, the automotive industry, manufacturing, retail, mechanical engineering, services, education, and healthcare. Thematically, our work spans areas including production, logistics, marketing, sales, software development, innovation management, sustainability, communication, and vocational training and education.

Opportunities for Collaboration
Teaching
In our teaching, we focus on challenge-based learning and purposefully integrate application-oriented questions to demonstrate to students how theoretical foundations can be applied in real-world contexts.
We enrich our courses with guest lectures, offering valuable insights from industry and helping students develop ideas for their future career paths after graduation.
In the context of bachelor’s and master’s theses, we collaborate with companies to provide students access to relevant data, e.g., through case studies, surveys, experiments, or usage data from information technologies.
Research
Our research offers broad applicability across industries and domains and provides excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation – whether through industry-funded research projects, joint grant proposals, or knowledge and technology transfer initiatives.
The gaming industry is considered a pioneer in the development of digital technologies. Building on our expertise in games and gamification, we support companies outside the gaming sector in:
- developing game-based products and services,
- better understanding societal shifts driven by gaming trends, and
- optimizing internal processes through gamification.
We believe that gamification and technological developments from the gaming industry will play a central role in shaping the future of work. As such, we actively support companies in transformation processes that can be facilitated through gamification strategies.
We are especially interested in collaborations that go beyond the current state of research—for example, by applying knowledge, technologies, or methods from gamification and gaming in previously unexplored contexts, or by investigating emerging or poorly understood phenomena and dilemmas.
Our partners benefit from deep insights into our existing research and gain the opportunity to strategically position themselves or differentiate in the market based on latest research findings.
For inspiration on potential collaborative projects, we recommend taking a look at our current research areas and our Gameful Innovation Lab (GINI).
